This morning
I got up first!
I was up before my mum.
She looked so funny
with her mouth open and her hair sticking up.
I got up before Dad.
He was stretched out under the green quilt
like a crocodile.
I was awake before Ellie
sleeping silently on her tummy
and Raffles, curled up at the end of her bed.
I was even up
before the sun!
I got dressed
in my school uniform
without being asked
poured a bowl of cornflakes
all by myself
and sat down in the dark kitchen to eat
when Dad came in, rubbing his eyes,
and growled, “It’s 3 o’clock in the morning!
Go back to bed!”

I really liked this poem it reminded me of when I woke up before everyone else and witnessed something of this sort.
Hi Tiaana,
I’m glad you like my poem. Did you find the simile it it?
I must admit that this never happened to me, but it did happen to my brother when he was little, and lots of people tell me it has happened to them!
Kristin
OMG! I love the poem,
this poem was so true and so funny!
I always woke up to early in the morning,
and getting told off by my dad telling me to get back to bed,
Hi Ngapera,
I’m glad you like the poem. It’s not a true poem, but it is based on my brother. He only did it once. You must be a morning person if you do this often!
Kristin
To Kristin
I liked your poem because…
1. I liked that you said that the girl or boy woke up before the day was even lit up and dad came in growling and then saying it’s only 3:am!
2. Was I just loved how you made it up with really good effort and funny things like that you said that the mum would come to the dining room with very cranky, funny and hairy hair not like the emoji!
3. I even liked the part about the I’m the first title with the bowl of the morning cereal in the bowl!
4. I loved that you made it very easy and
shorter than the other poems written by the other authors in long poems!
5.Lastly I liked how you made it realistic-fiction too!
From Sapphira
Hi Sapphira,
I loved your comment so very much because…
1. it had numbers. I love numbers. Did you know that rhyming poems have a lot to do with numbers? Non-rhyming poems don’t though.
2. you said lovely things about my poem. Thank you!
3. you put a lot of thought and effort into your comment.
4. you wrote a lot.
5. you had 5 numbered points!
Kristin

Hi Addison,
I’m glad you’re excited to get up and learn. I hope you don’t get up quite so early as the child in this poem!

This was a hilarious poem. I certainly believe that it was one of your best. I’ve gotten up at 3am before but I didn’t think to spy on anyone. Great Job!
Hi Chomilka,
Thank you!
I’ve never thought it was morning at 3 o’clock, but I do sometimes wake up at that time. I don’t spy on people though!
Kristin

Hi Lithumi,
It is confusing when that happen, isn’t it?
Kristin
Hi Kristen
That was a great poem! Dose the child get up early everyday?
Also have you got up in the morning super early?
From Thinara
I made up the poem. It isn’t true!
Kristin
Hi Kristin
I loved it. It was so funny, and how the boy thought he was getting up early, but it was 3 am. Where did you find the inspiration for this idea? Also, has this ever happened to you? I wouldn’t like to wake up at 3 am!!
Tharusha
Hi Tharusha,
It is interesting that you thought it was a little boy. It could also be about a little girl. The child referred to themselves as ‘I’.
Kristin
Hi Kristin,
Your poem is so beautiful. On weekends I wake up before my mum, dad and my little sister.
Thank you
Chenuli
Thank you, Chenuli!

Kristin

This poem is a little like me once i woke up at 3:00. This poem is a bit funny because in the part when dad growled it was funny.
Hi Senehas,
I’m glad you think my poem was funny.
Kristin
hi kristin
i love you poems so much that i might make poems as well and thank you for making poems.
Hi Tharuja,
I’d love to read some of your poems.
Kristin
Hi Kristin
I liked how you said that you got up before everyone else only because you got up at 3 A.M. Thanks for the great poem Kristin.
Hi Dinith,
You’re welcome. I think you have also read some poems by my friend Alys Jackson. They are great, aren’t they?
Kristin

Hi Manaia,

Kristin
Hi Kristin
Loved the poem, I’m never the first one to get up in the morning.
Thanks Mia!

Love
Adelaide
Hi Adelaide,
I like your name!
I don’t like to get up that early either.
Kristin
This is the best poem you have made!
Thanks Sanuli!
I’m always up before any of my siblings, but throughout my whole life, I’m pretty sure I’ve never woken up 4h before them, especially on a school day!
Hi Lyana,
It is pretty early, isn’t it!
Kristin
Hi Kristin
What a funny poem but it happend to me on a Saturday when i thought it was a school day.
Oh dear!
Amazing poem. I was thinking if your awake before the sun, it must be early!
Hi Mikayla,
Have you ever been up before the sun?
Kristin
Hi Kristin,
Most of the time I’m up before the sun. Normally I wake up at 6:00 or 6:30.
Mikayla
Hi Mikayla,
That sounds like a reasonable time to get up. Much better than 3:00!
Kristin
I Really Liked This Poem! ☺
Thanks Madaline!

Thanks Nyasha!
This poem reminds me of my brother when he woke up before anyone else in the family
Hi Nuwin,
How old is your brother?
Kristin
Truly I and 8 but wake up early morning arround 5 and make my parents and grandparents and brother’s tea and open curtains. But never alone only with my ma as I am scared to go to kitchen alone. Am I good girl like you?
Hi Dinethri,
You sound very helpful. I’m sure your family appreciates you.
Kristin
Hi Kristin
keep .up the good work.
Thanks Tiaana!
For a minute I thought that you were the first person born in the family. I don’t have any siblings. Today I woke up at 12 o’clock pm! I know I am so late but then I realized that it was the holidays and that I can sleep all I want. I like this poem a lot.
Thisali
Hi Thisali,
It’s nice sleeping in! Much better than getting up at 3 am!
Kristin
Hi Kristin
I like the poem because in my house its a competition to see who gets up first.
thanks
Cheyanne
Hi Cheyanne,
Thanks for your comment. In my house I am always up first, though not at 3:00 in the morning!
Kristin
Hi Kristin
I’m never the first in my family, I’m actually always the last. Everyone is always waiting for me, every time we go somewhere. I think it’s very funny.
From Lysha
Hi Lysha,
You could write a poem called ‘I’m the last!’
Kristin
Being first is not the best all the time because you might be asked to attempt something you’ve never done before. I once woke up at 3 O’clock in the morning on a school day but I wassn’t asked to go back to bed.
-Thisama
Hi Kristin,
This poem made me laugh and I really enjoyed it. I suggest this poem should go under silly poems.
The picture shows my favourite breakfast. Kristin, is Ellie your sister?
Thanks
Dinidu
Hi Dinidu,
Thanks for another lovely comment. My poems are mostly fictional, so Ellie is not my sister. I do know a girl called Ellie, so that is why I used the name.
Kristin
Once I had to wake up at that time to go to the airport it was to early funny poem.
Hi Nae,
I don’t like waking up early!
Kristin
Me neither
to kristin
i found this poem very funny because this happen to me once
but since than i always sleep in just in case it was 3 o’clock in the morning
from charlotte
Hi Charlotte,
I’m glad you thought my poem was funny. I think lots of people have gotten up early thinking it was morning, but, like you, they only do it once!
Kristin
very funny. I always wake up late because I sleep late in the night. What about you?
Hi Thenumi,
I’m usually the first one up in my house. Though I like to wait until the sun is up first.
Kristin
I’ve read lots of your poems but so far this is the best!
Thanks Desiyer!
Hi ,
Wow what a funny poem & that happened me too
Thanks Methuli,
I didn’t actually do that, but my brother did!
