I’m The First!

This morning
I got up first!

I was up before my mum.
She looked so funny
with her mouth open and her hair sticking up.

I got up before Dad.
He was stretched out under the green quilt
like a crocodile.

I was awake before Ellie
sleeping silently on her tummy
and Raffles, curled up at the end of her bed.

I was even up
before the sun!

I got dressed
in my school uniform
without being asked

poured a bowl of cornflakes
all by myself
and sat down in the dark kitchen to eat

when Dad came in, rubbing his eyes,
and growled, “It’s 3 o’clock in the morning!
Go back to bed!”

    • Hi Tiaana,

I’m glad you like my poem. Did you find the simile it it?
I must admit that this never happened to me, but it did happen to my brother when he was little, and lots of people tell me it has happened to them!

    • Hi Ngapera,

I’m glad you like the poem. It’s not a true poem, but it is based on my brother. He only did it once. You must be a morning person if you do this often!

  1. To Kristin
    I liked your poem because…
    1. I liked that you said that the girl or boy woke up before the day was even lit up and dad came in growling and then saying it’s only 3:am!
    2. Was I just loved how you made it up with really good effort and funny things like that you said that the mum would come to the dining room with very cranky, funny and hairy hair not like the emoji‍!
    3. I even liked the part about the I’m the first title with the bowl of the morning cereal in the bowl!
    4. I loved that you made it very easy and
shorter than the other poems written by the other authors in long poems!
5.Lastly I liked how you made it realistic-fiction too!

    • Hi Sapphira,

I loved your comment so very much because…
      1. it had numbers. I love numbers. Did you know that rhyming poems have a lot to do with numbers? Non-rhyming poems don’t though.
      2. you said lovely things about my poem. Thank you!
      3. you put a lot of thought and effort into your comment.
      4. you wrote a lot.
      5. you had 5 numbered points!

  3. This was a hilarious poem. I certainly believe that it was one of your best. I’ve gotten up at 3am before but I didn’t think to spy on anyone. Great Job!

  4. Hi Kristen
That was a great poem! Dose the child get up early everyday?
Also have you got up in the morning super early?

  5. Hi Kristin
I loved it. It was so funny, and how the boy thought he was getting up early, but it was 3 am. Where did you find the inspiration for this idea? Also, has this ever happened to you? I wouldn’t like to wake up at 3 am!!

  6. Hi Kristin
This poem is a little like me once i woke up at 3:00. This poem is a bit funny because in the part when dad growled it was funny.

  7. Hi Kristin
I liked how you said that you got up before everyone else only because you got up at 3 A.M. Thanks for the great poem Kristin.

  8. Dear Kristin,

I feel shocked because it is 3am and as she got up before the sun. I don’t like to get up that early!!

  9. I’m always up before any of my siblings, but throughout my whole life, I’m pretty sure I’ve never woken up 4h before them, especially on a school day!

  10. Truly I and 8 but wake up early morning arround 5 and make my parents and grandparents and brother’s tea and open curtains. But never alone only with my ma as I am scared to go to kitchen alone. Am I good girl like you?

  11. For a minute I thought that you were the first person born in the family. I don’t have any siblings. Today I woke up at 12 o’clock pm! I know I am so late but then I realized that it was the holidays and that I can sleep all I want. I like this poem a lot.

  12. Hi Kristin
I’m never the first in my family, I’m actually always the last. Everyone is always waiting for me, every time we go somewhere. I think it’s very funny.

  13. Being first is not the best all the time because you might be asked to attempt something you’ve never done before. I once woke up at 3 O’clock in the morning on a school day but I wassn’t asked to go back to bed.

  14. Hi Kristin,

This poem made me laugh and I really enjoyed it. I suggest this poem should go under silly poems.
The picture shows my favourite breakfast. Kristin, is Ellie your sister?

    Thanks
    Dinidu

    • Hi Dinidu,

Thanks for another lovely comment. My poems are mostly fictional, so Ellie is not my sister. I do know a girl called Ellie, so that is why I used the name.

      Kristin

  15. to kristin

    from charlotte

    • Hi Charlotte,

I’m glad you thought my poem was funny. I think lots of people have gotten up early thinking it was morning, but, like you, they only do it once!
