A Night of Frogs

PaintMee_Lite_20140328123015

A frog lives in our garden
in a pond beneath the tree.
I hear him croak at bedtime
as he says goodnight to me.

A frog lives near our driveway
on a post below the light.
I sneak outside to see her
’cause she’s only there at night.

A frog lives in our laundry
in the corner of the wall.
I check on him soon after
to make sure he doesn’t fall.

A frog lives in our kitchen
in the space behind the sink.
She freezes in the torchlight
when I get myself a drink.

A frog lives in our bathroom
and I don’t know what to do!
He isn’t where he should be!
Yuk! He’s swimming in the loo!

My mum comes in the bathroom,
plants a kiss upon my head.
‘The frogs are fine just where they are
but you should be in bed!’

    • Hi Nicholas,

I love frogs! They are so cute! I especially love their tiny toes on their tiny feet. What do you and your sister like about frogs?

      Kristin

  1. Hi Kristin
This poem is so good! I enjoyed it so much. I particularly liked the constant rhythm throughout the poem and the rhyme between the second and fourth lines in each stanza.

    • Hi Malikai,

I like frogs too! Did your frog live in a pond, or inside in an aquarium? Have you ever written a poem about you frog? I’d love to read it if you have.

  3. Hey Kristin,
I really like the poem about the frog and I love the bit when the frog swims in the loo! I thought it was very funny, and I think you should keep writing poems because you are very good at them. Great job!

    • Hello Emma!

I’m so excited to see a comment from one of my students. Thank you!

I like the bit about the frog swimming in the loo too. When we went to the Northern Territory for a holiday, we saw frogs in lots of toilets!

  5. Hey Kristin,
Your poem was really great. I loved how everything rhymed and flowed so well. Also, I dislike frogs, but this poem made frogs sound delightful. Would you like to have frogs around your house all the time?
    Thanks,
    Lithumi

  7. Hi Kristin,
I loved this poem because of the rhymes and creativeness. You are very good at writing poems. Do you like frogs? Furthermore, would you happen to like to live with frogs? I certainly would not like to!!

  8. Hi Kristin,
It was a funny and short poem. I enjoyed reading it. I will be scared if a frog lives in our home and then there will be two who’ll jump.

    • Hi Ishrit,

I enjoyed reading your comment! I like frogs a lot, but I guess I wouldn’t really want one jumping around my house. I would probably jump too.

      Kristin

  9. Hi Kristin
I love this poem, it reminds me of the book ‘There is a frog in the toilet and I really need to pee’ by Anh Do
It is funny, and makes me remember to always turn the light on!

    Thanks for the poems
    Archie

  10. Hi Kristen
I have not experienced frogs in my house before and now I understand sometimes they can be a little gross. How long did the frogs stay in the house for? Also did the frog get out of the loo?

    • Hi Thinara,

I wrote this poem after a holiday in Northern Territory when we saw frogs everywhere, including inside toilets! I don’t really have frogs in my house, though I would like to. I was using my imagination.

  11. Hi Kristin

this wonderful poem reminded me of my fish pond and the frogs which came at night to eat my guppies and other small fish so I had to catch them and put them in their creek this happened in Sri Lanka

    • Hi Wenuda,

Your pond sounds lovely, but I’m sorry to hear that the frogs ate your fish. I had a turtle pond and a frog pond, but some of the turtles moved into the frog pond, and I never saw the frogs again.

      Kristin

  12. hi kristin

when i visit i always hear the noises of a frog i always think it’s inside my head.
    creative poem you had.

  13. Hi Kristin,

I went through all of the animal poems and I liked this poem the best. The tree frogs would be so cute lying everywhere throughout the house! I’ve never seen a real tree frog in the flesh but I hear about it all the time from my nanna who lives in Townsville, Queensland. She has frogs everywhere in her house, especially in the toilet! I love all of your poems!

    • Hi Arielle,

Thank you for your lovely comment. It sounds like you should visit your Nanna and see all the frogs in her house! I don’t often see frogs where I live in Adelaide, but I wrote this poem after I went on holiday to NT and saw frogs everywhere!

      Kristin

      • Hey Kristin,

Thanks for the comment. Very rarely at our house, we see Banjo frogs when my dad turnes on his sprinkler at night. I hope you had a great holiday!

        Thanks, Arielle

  14. Hi Kristin,

When I was in my Sri-Lanka my home country my family and I went to my grandma’s house . Every night I slept with my grandma I heared frogs croak and it’s a beautiful sound to sleep but can’t get a perfect sleep.

    Thanks
    Methuli

  15. I love this poem because we have had a few frogs inside our house to and it is funny watching mum jumping up on the chair screaming, she really hate frogs and so do I but it is funny laughing at mum.

  16. This poem was very creative and I enjoyed it very much. There are quite a bit of frogs in Sri Lanka and I am terrified of them. However, this poem was quite funny and I liked the bit when you said that the frogs were swimming in the loo.

    • Hi Chomilka,

Thank you for your comment. I like the part about swimming in the loo too.

Are you from Sri Lanka? I went there once- it is a beautiful place!

      Kristin

  17. Hi Kristin,
I love frogs we get them in our garden and sometimes in the pool. If they are in the pool I have to rescue them.

  18. Hello Kristen!!!!!!!!!
Creative poem. Me and my family have not dealt with frogs yet but I’m sure it would be Awesome. Frogs are really cool and I am not sure why most people are scared of them. What inspired you to write this poem and why?

  19. We were having lot of fun with frogs when we were Sri Lanka and this poem remind me those days. I dont like to touch them but like to observe them. My mam said when they were in school they had a lesson in science to learn about frogs and they truly kill the frogs and cut them which I dont like at all. I love animals and nature. Your poem made my day!

  20. Hi Kristin
I really like this poem because it reminded me of the time we went to Sri-Lanka and there were frogs in the bathroom.

  21. Hi Kristin,

  23. I love your poem.Frogs are very gross if you’re holding it in your hands their very slimy and gooey but you have to remove it so you have to touch it.

  24. We really enjoyed reading this poem about frogs. I hope you had a great time when you went up north.

    Jay and Drew

    • Thank you. The graphic is a PaintMee of a photo I took in Northern Territory. We found frogs in all sorts of places, including the toilet. Which is where I got the idea for the poem!

  25. Hi Kristin
I love this poem! As always with your work I was waiting for the funny twist at the end and I was not disappointed!!
Looking forward to reading it to my kids.
