{"id":147,"date":"2013-02-16T14:39:04","date_gmt":"2013-02-16T05:09:04","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/kristinmartin.net\/?page_id=147"},"modified":"2026-01-10T14:54:48","modified_gmt":"2026-01-10T05:24:48","slug":"my-new-pet","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/kristinmartin.net\/?page_id=147","title":{"rendered":"My New Pet"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/kristinmartin.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/6D96B118-1986-49F4-9202-EF9356A0D39E_1_102_a.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-1408\" src=\"https:\/\/kristinmartin.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/01\/6D96B118-1986-49F4-9202-EF9356A0D39E_1_102_a.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"480\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I asked Mum for a puppy dog.<br \/>\nI thought she said, \u2018Okay\u2019.<br \/>\nSo all last week I dreamed of him<br \/>\nand all the games we\u2019d play.<br \/>\nI dreamed of playing ball with him<br \/>\nand playing fetch with sticks.<br \/>\nI dreamed he\u2019d walk to school with me<br \/>\nand show my friends his tricks.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m sure that you can understand<br \/>\nwhy I was so upset:<br \/>\ninstead of my new dog, I got<br \/>\na turtle for a pet!<br \/>\nShe sat in her aquarium<br \/>\nand slowly blinked at me.<br \/>\nShe barely swam around at all.<br \/>\nHow boring could she be?<\/p>\n<p>I took her out and threw a ball.<br \/>\nShe hid inside her shell.<br \/>\nI gently rolled the ball to her:<br \/>\nthat frightened her as well.<br \/>\nAnd when I tried to make her fetch<br \/>\nthe stick I found outside,<br \/>\nshe wandered off the other way.<br \/>\nI very nearly cried.<\/p>\n<p>I ran inside and got the leash<br \/>\nto walk her down the street.<br \/>\nThe collar slipped right down her neck,<br \/>\nthen off her shell and feet.<br \/>\nBut suddenly she scrambled up<br \/>\nand raced across the ground!<br \/>\nShe headed straight for our screen door.<br \/>\nI watched without a sound.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s when I knew my pet was great,<br \/>\n&#8217;cause this is what I saw.<br \/>\nMy turtle, who is not a dog<br \/>\ncrawled through the doggy door!<\/p>\n<p>\u00a9 Kristin Martin 2013<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; I asked Mum for a puppy dog.
