Little Lost Doggy

Where, oh where, has that little dog gone?
I’ve no idea where he’d be.
For I’ve searched all over the house, three times,
and he’s nowhere that I can see.

He’s not under the covers, or the bed,
or in one of your drawers.
He’s not fallen down behind the couch
or behind one of the doors.

I’ve tipped all the toy boxes out on the floor
and sifted through all of the junk.
I’ve looked behind all the books on the shelf
and inside the old wooden trunk.

He’s not in the teapot this time, I’ve checked,
or hidden in the piano seat.
And I don’t think you left him in the pantry
when you were looking for something to eat.

I’ve looked outside on the trampoline
and even looked up in the tree.
He’s not hiding behind the water tank-
I just don’t know where he’d be.

So I’m terribly sorry to tell you, my love,
unless you can tell me where,
I won’t search for him a second more-
you’ll just have to sleep with your bear.

    • I’m not sure where the inspiration came from, but it all started with the first two lines. I loved that scary and wary rhymed, so I tried to think of more rhymes about dogs.
